Moses Delgado Honored

The Cup is engraved as follows: "By a resolution unanimously entered into at a meeting of the gentlemen of the Hebrew Persuasion, holden in the city of Kingston in the Island of Jamaica on the 12th of December, 1831, this Cup was directed to be procured and presented to Moses Delgado Esquire as a grateful testimony of the sense entertained by them of his manly and indefatigable zeal and honorable exertions in support of the rights and privileges which they have now the happiness to enjoy in common with all His Britannic Majesty's Subjects."



Kingston Synagogues Destroyed by Fire
December 11, 1882

The Spanish and Portuguese Jewish Synagogue at the north easy corner of Princess Street and Water Lane (consecrated 1750), and the English and German Jewish Synagogue at the south west corner of Orange and Barry Streets (built 1789) are destroyed by a fire in Kingston. Also destroyed is the building occupied by the Government Savings Bank on the north side of Port Royal Street between Duke Street and John's lane. Over 500 buildings are destroyed. Five persons are burnt to death.
